Hunt Valley, Md. (September 21, 2012)--Tommy Gruschow won the men's race while Megan Kinsella took home first place in the women's race to pace the Mount St. Mary's cross country teams at the Towson Invitational. Each team finished in second place at the meet.
Gruschow won the men's five-mile race with a time of 26:23.6 to help the team to a second-place finish in the eight-team field. Chris Swisko was seventh overall with a time of 26:59.59 with freshman Chris Jewell placing 12th with a mark of 27:54.60. Sean Caskey was 16th (28:36.86) with Shane Holcomb placing 18th (28:42.88) to round out the top five runners for the Mountaineers.
Navy won the meet with 28 points, followed by the Mount (50), UMBC (68), Delaware State (150), Morgan State (157), Coppin State (169), Bowie State (172) and Maryland-Eastern Shore (185).
Kinsella edged Towson's Elizabeth Tauber by 0.74 seconds to win the women's race for the Mount. She finished the five-kilometer course in a time of 19:00.14. Megan Schott was fourth overall with a mark of 19:13.83 with McKenzie Doyle finishing seventh overall with a time of 19:32.89. Colleen Smith (20:12.67, 14th) and Madeline Rico (20:26.83, 17th) were the Mount's fourth and fifth-fastest finishers at the meet.
Towson took home first place with 32 points, followed by the Mount (43), UMBC (47), Maryland-Eastern Shore (132), Morgan State (135), Delaware State (166), District of Columbia (207) and Bowie State (226).
The Mount is back in action at the George Mason Invitational on Saturday, September 29.
