Mount St. Mary's Men's And Women's Tennis Blanked By Hampton On Tuesday
Emmitsburg, Md. (April 17, 2018) - The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's tennis teams were blanked by the Hampton men's and women's tennis teams in the final match of the season on Tuesday afternoon. In the final match before the Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament, the Pirate men swept the Mountaineer men 4-0 and the Pirate women swept the Mountaineer women 4-0 as well. These matches were played match to clinch so the outcome was the first team to four points wins the match.

For the men, Hampton took the early one point advantage from doubles competition by winning the number one and three flights. The pairing of Parth Sharma and Jean Armstrong grabbed the only doubles play win for the Mount, defeating Shirin and Odegbami 6-3. Brandon Wortkotter is still just two doubles victories away from tying the all-time winning doubles leader, Austin Blake. Wortkotter will look to do so in the upcoming NEC tournament.

Since the Pirate men won the point from doubles, they only needed to capture three singles flight wins to win the whole match. Hampton won the third, fifth, and sixth flights to earn the overall match victory. Wortkotter was defeating his opponent 6-1, 4-2 before his flight did not finish while Jackson Wood and Jean Armstrong each won the first set of their flights before their flights did not finish as well. With the loss, the Mount St. Mary's men finish the regular season with a 6-14 mark.

For the women, the Pirates swept all three flights of doubles play to grab the one point from doubles competition. For the Mount, sophomore Hannah Davis finished the regular season as the team leader in double wins with 15. She will look to add more in the Northeast Conference Tournament coming up on Friday, Aril 20.

Hampton earned the overall match victory by taking the number two, four, and six flights of singles competition. Sophomore, Alexa Quintanilla was winning her flight 7-6, 3-0 before her flight did not finish and Quintanilla finishes the regular season with a team leading 19 singles flight victories for the Mountaineers. Junior, Emma Blake lost the first set of her flight but won the second set before her flight did not finish. The Mount women finish the regular season with a record of 4-16.

Both the men and the women are back in action Friday, April 20th when both teams will play in the NEC quarterfinals. The men will play Fairleigh Dickinson at 9:00 AM and the women will play St. Francis Pa. at 11:30 AM.
