Mount Women’s Tennis to Take on La Salle on Saturday

MOUNT UPDATE: Mount St. Mary's is looking to seal a win against the Explorers on Saturday, Oct. 5, at La Salle to improve an already strong fall season. This will be the Mount's third dual match, with only one remaining, before the conclusion of the 2013 fall campaign.
LAST TIME OUT: The Mount is coming off a 7-0 loss against the Towson Tigers on Oct. 2, at Towson University. The Mountaineers were able to clinch a solid 8-7 (7-3) win with Kelly Smith and Jennifer Smith at No. 1 doubles against the Tigers.
ABOUT THE EXPLORERS: The Explorers, led by Coach Tony Green, have a dual record of 2-1 this fall. The Explorers have notched dual match wins over Gwynedd Mercy (5-4) and Millersville (6-1). Both Chloe Trave (No. 3) and Margot Tovia (No. 4) have a perfect singles record of 3-0 so far this fall.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. LA SALLE: This will be the Mount's first time ever competing against La Salle.
LEADING THE WAY: The Smith duo will lead the way with a 2-0 dual match record at No. 1 doubles against La Salle. The Mount also has three players with four singles victories under their belts this fall. The trio includes junior Taylor D'Agostino, and freshmen Erin Benefiel and Kelly Smith.
COACHING STAFF: Head Coach Phil Hammond is in his 10th season at the helm for the Mount. In his first nine seasons, Hammond has built both the men's and women's programs into perennial contenders in the Northeast Conference. On the women's side, Hammond's coaching record is 117-84, while putting together an 89-103 mark with the men's team. His assistants are sixth-year coach Bill Holloway and the Mount's all-time leader for singles wins, Mike Salomon, who graduated from the Mount in 2013.
UP NEXT: The Mount will travel to Lawrenceville, N.J., on Oct. 19, for the last match of the fall season against Rider.
