West Long Branch, NJ (April 15, 2012)-- The Mount women's tennis team defeated Monmouth on Sunday, 5-2. Junior Kelly Conroy tied the single season wins record and can break it on Wednesday.
In doubles, Conroy paired with Samantha Pinchoff to defeat Nicole Lippens and Brooke Verdiglione at the No. 1 spot, 8-1. The Mount swept the other two matches to take the doubles point. The Junior tandem of Renee Deane and Carly Landini defeated Dana Ferrari and Jessica Slinger 8-2. Liz Rossi paired up with Lauren Clark at the No. 3 spot to down Ashley Sandler and Sarah Turner, 8-3.
The Mount went on to win four of the six singles matches to seal the win. Conroy tied the single season record, and continued her hot streak by defeating Verdiglione in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Pinchoff won at the No. 1 spot over Lippens; 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Jenny Smith won at the No. 5 spot, downing Liz D'Arcy in three sets. Smith won 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 10-7. Carly Landini defeated Ferrari 6-1, 6-2 in the four spot to round out the Mount wins.
The women return to action this Wednesday when the host Loyola. The match time with the Greyhounds has yet to be determined.
