Women’s Swimming & Diving Improves to 4-0 with Victory over Saint Peter’s

Newark, N.J. (October 14, 2017) – The Mount St. Mary's University women's swimming & diving team defeated Saint Peter's by a 134-57 margin on Saturday to collect its fourth straight win to open the campaign, matching its best start to a season in program history.

RESULTS

Mount St. Mary's won seven of the 11 events on the day, including registering the top-three finishes in a pair of events.

In the 200 free, the Mount placed 1-2-3, led by Mary Lombardi's first-place time of 2:03.53. Lauren Gullickson clocked in at 2:06.41 and Cassie Mann finished in 2:17.01 to take second and third place, respectively. In the 100 back, Gabrielle Benedictis won the event in 1:06.62, while Alex Kelly (1:08.56) and Angela Sampson (1:09.32) finished 2-3.

Maggie deTar took first place in the 1000 free (11:08.63), Juliet Whitman placed first in the 200 IM (2:25.17) and Erin Vopalensky won the 100 fly (1:03.29) for the Mount's other three victories in individual events.

Mount St. Mary's also won both relay events, as the team of Maddie McGraw, Alyssa Felos, Valeria Villagran and JeMoon Won took first in the 200 medley relay (1:57.62), and the relay squad of deTar, Bridget Vaughan, Lombardi and Villagran finished up the meet with the top spot in the 800 free relay (8:19.99).

The Mountaineers are off from competition until November 3, when they travel to Howard for a dual meet at 6 p.m.
