Women’s Swimming & Diving Races Past Monmouth for Third Straight Win

West Long Branch, N.J. (October 13, 2017) – The Mount St. Mary's University women's swimming & diving team posted a 146-116 victory over Monmouth on Friday afternoon for the team's third straight win to open the season. Four different Mountaineers placed first in multiple events on the afternoon.

RESULTS

Juliet Whitman led the Mount's freshmen trio that finished in the top three spots of the 200 fly. Whitman clocked in at 2:20.90 for a first-place showing, while Lizanne Passaro (2:22.95) and Erin Vopalensky (2:29.33) took second and third, respectively. Whitman also tied for first place with fellow freshman Valeria Villagran in the 100 fly, with times of 1:02.02.

Mary Lombardi and Maggie deTar continued their impressive starts to the 2017-18 campaign with multiple victories once again. Lombardi took first place in both the 500 (5:21.15) and 1000 (11:01.23) freestyles, while deTar registered the top spot in both the 100 (55.75) and 200 (2:00.83) free.

Maddie McGraw was the other Mountaineer with multiple wins on the day, taking first place in the 100 (1:01.14) and 200 (2:13.20) backstroke events.

The Mount's relay squad of McGraw, Lauren Gullickson, Whitman and deTar posted a time of 4:07.83 in the 400 medley relay to earn a first-place showing.

The Mount stays in New Jersey for a meet with Saint Peter's tomorrow (October 14) at 10 a.m.
