Boston, Mass. (February 28, 2013)—Mount St. Mary's is in fifth place after two days at the 2013 Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The NEC Championships are being held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the Cambridge section of Boston.
Courtney Griffith finished in fifth place with a time of 23.89 seconds while Mollie Walsh was eighth with a mark of 24.29 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle. Walsh earned her spot in the finals after winning a swim-off with a personal-best time. Cat Coppler and Anne Thelen finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in the B Final in the 50-yard freestyle.
The Mount's 200-yard freestyle relay squad of Griffith, Walsh, Coppler and Erin Regan finished third with a time of 1:34.83. Regan won the B final in the 500-yard freestyle.
Saint Francis (Pa.) leads the meet with 251 points, followed by Central Connecticut State (237), Wagner (234.5), Bryant (227.5), the Mount (130), St. Francis (N.Y.) (88) and Sacred Heart (79).
Yesterday, the Mount's 200 yard medley relay team and 800 yard freestyle relay teams each finished in fifth place. Regan set a new school record with her leadoff leg in the 800 freestyle.
