EMMITSBURG, Md. - Courtney Griffith (Westminster, Md./Westminster), a member of the Mount St. Mary's women's swimming team, has been named the Northeast Conference Co-Swimmer of the Week for the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4. It is the third time Griffith has earned the conference weekly honor in her career.
Griffith closed out her final regular season by winning four short-course meter events in the Mount's loss to Loyola on Saturday. The senior took first in the 50 freestyle (27.91), 200 freestyle (2:11.08) and 100 butterfly (1:06.90) and swam the opening leg of the 200-free relay (1:51.17) that won the event in program and pool record fashion against the Greyhounds.
Griffith won the award twice last season after sharing the award with junior teammate Cat Coppler (Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi) for the first week of the 2011-12 campaign and also was selected NEC Swimmer of the Week for the week of Nov. 9-15, 2011.
It was the fourth time in team history the Mountaineers have earned NEC Swimmer of the Week honors. Along with sharing the nod with Griffith to start last season, Coppler took home the award for the week of Nov. 15-21, 2012. Katie Fives was the first Mountaineer to earn recognition from the NEC when she was named NEC Diver of the Week in 2008.
Mount St. Mary's jumps back in the pool at the NEC Swimming & Diving Championships on Feb. 27. The four-day event begins with an evening session starting at 7 p.m.
