Maddie Tchou leads the team with two goals while Kayla Hughes has the Mount's other goal this season.
ABOUT DELAWARE STATE: Delaware State is coming off a 5-1 loss to Rider at home on Wednesday and enters Sunday's game with a 2-7-0 record on the season. Jade Jamison leads the team with three goals while Savannah Ay has a pair of markers. Alexa Gibbs is tied for second on the team with four points (1g, 2a). Goalkeeper Leslie Fazio has a 3.07 goals against average and a .627 save percentage this season.
ALL-TIME SERIES: The Mount holds a 5-3-1 lead in the all-time series that began in 2003. The teams have met in each of the past six seasons with Delaware State going 3-0-1 against the Mount over the past four matchups. Last year, the Mount tied the Hornets, 0-0, at Waldron Family Stadium. The Mount is 3-0-1 at home and 2-2-0 on the road against Delaware State.
LAST YEAR'S MATCHUP: The Mount and Delaware State battled to a 0-0 draw last year at Waldron Family Stadium. The Mountaineers held a 22-9 advantage in shots, including an 8-2 margin in the overtime periods. The Mount had a potential go-ahead goal called back due to offsides late in regulation. MAKE-UP GAME: The Mount will make up its game at UMBC on Wednesday, September 19, at 4:00 p.m. The game was postponed due to the weather on September 7.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Freshman Maddie Tchou was named Northeast Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week on September 5. Tchou scored her first two collegiate goals to lead Mount St. Mary's past Howard, 2-1, last Friday. She provided all of the Mount offense in the team's victory over Howard at Waldron Family Stadium. The freshman tapped home a cross from Gianna Pomykacz just 3:27 into the game to put the Mountaineers on top. After Howard scored a late first half goal to even the score, Tchou provided the winning goal with 1:49 remaining in the game. Tchou is the 15th player in Mount history to earn an NEC Rookie of the Week award.
PRESEASON PREDICTIONS: The Mountaineers were picked ninth in the annual Northeast Conference preseason coaches poll that was released prior to the season. Two-time defending champion Saint Francis U is the preseason favorite.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE: The Mount heads to UMBC on September 19 for a makeup of its game that was postponed on September 7. The Mountaineers will then host Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, September 23, at 1:00 p.m., for the team's Northeast Conference opener.
