Mount St. Mary’s Women’s Soccer Downed by Sacred Heart

Fairfield, Conn. (October 6, 2017) – Kim McNally's second half tally propelled Sacred Heart to a 1-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's University in Northeast Conference women's soccer action on Friday afternoon.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half of play despite a couple chances from both sides. Kayla Hughes fired a pair of shots on goal in the period for the Mountaineers.

The game remained scoreless well into the second frame until the 71st minute of play when McNally netted her second goal of the season. Alyssa Hyland found McNally on the back side for an open look, and McNally finished to put the Pioneers on top, 1-0.

Sacred Heart's defense was able to hold up for the remainder of the stanza as the Pioneers escaped with the 1-0 win. The victory pushed SHU to 5-8 overall and 2-1 in league play, while the Mount dropped to 4-8-1 overall and 1-2 in the NEC.

Alex Mesropyan registered a game-high four shots as the Pioneers held a 12-4 shot advantage in the contest.

Nicole Sambuco earned her fifth win of the season, stopping three shots in the shutout effort. Maggie Barron also made three saves in net for the Mountaineers.
