Philadelphia, Pa. (September 3, 2017) – Gabriella McKeown scored her first two goals of the season to lift Temple to a 2-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's University on Sunday afternoon.
Temple (3-3) opened the scoring in the contest on McKeown's 16th-minute tally. The senior made a nice move past a Mount defender and slotted one to the left of keeper Maggie Barron to give the Owls a 1-0 advantage.
Later in the first, the Mount nearly even the contest on Jaylyn's Chandler's long strike from outside the 18, which rang off the crossbar before being cleared by the Owls.
In the 36th minute, a streaking McKeown received a headed pass from Kerri McGinley down the far end. McKeown took a touch and snuck a left-footed shot just inside the far post for her second goal of the contest, pushing Temple's lead to 2-0.
The Mount (3-3) had an opportunity to cut its deficit in half late in the contest, but Chloe Cain's header from a few yards out was turned away by goalie Morgan Basileo.
The Owls held the Mount off the board in the final minutes to hang on for the 2-0 win.
Basileo improved to 2-0 on the year with seven saves in the shutout effort for Temple, while Barron stopped a pair of shots in goal for the Mountaineers.
Mount St. Mary's held a big shot-advantage in the contest, nearly doubling up the Owls by a 22-12 margin.
The Mount opens a two-game home stand on Friday, September 8 against Radford at 7 p.m. Live action will be streamed for free at NECFrontRow.com.
