Emmitsburg, Md. (April 21, 2017) – Mount St. Mary's University women's soccer Head Coach Joe Nemzer has announced that former Central Michigan standout Eliza Bona (formerly Van de Kerkhove) will join the Mount St. Mary's staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2017 season.
"We are thrilled to add Eliza to the Mount Soccer family as an Assistant Coach this upcoming fall," said Nemzer. "I was fortunate enough to work with her during my time at CMU and cannot speak highly enough of her ability as a player and leader. Eliza will be a tremendous role model for our women and a huge asset to our program. Throughout the course of the three years, I cherished the bond we had as coach/player and am very much looking forward to her playing an integral part of our staff."
Bona wrapped up her playing career at Central Michigan this past fall as one of the most decorated players in program history as she became the first CMU women's soccer player to earn NSCAA First Team All-Region honors and be named an All-American nominee. Bona was a three-year captain with the program and was named an All-MAC performer on two occasions, including a First Team selection her senior year. The midfielder played in 79 games throughout her CMU career, tallying 26 points on nine goals and eight assists.
"I am extremely excited to be joining the Mount St. Mary's women's soccer program. I am thankful to Joe for giving me the opportunity to assist him in leading a championship culture that is cultivated through a character-driven process. I am looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead this fall, and helping facilitate change in this elite and growing program," said Bona.
