Mount St. Mary's Women's Soccer Downed in Overtime, 2-1, at LIU Brooklyn

New York, N.Y. (October 19, 2012)—The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team suffered its second consecutive heart-breaking defeat with a 2-1 overtime loss at LIU Brooklyn on Friday afternoon at LIU Field.

LIU Brooklyn (6-7-3, 4-1-3 NEC) scored 6:39 into the first overtime period to earn the victory.  Sydney Ciufo kneed home the winning goal after a cross from Shino Kunisawa.

The Mount (7-8-1, 2-4-1 NEC) had rallied with a late goal to force the overtime period.  With just under three minutes left, Baker knocked a shot past LIU Brooklyn goalkeeper Jessica Sexton.  The play started with a free kick from 35 yards out that was deflected into the box to Baker, who was able to post her fifth goal of the year.

It was Baker's 13th career goal as a Mountaineer, moving her into a tie for seventh all-time.

The Blackbirds took the lead in the second half when Toni Smith headed home a cross from Katie Egan in the 66th minute.

LIU Brooklyn outshot the Mount, 13-to-4, in the game and had a 2-to-1 edge in corner kicks.

Vicky Cocozza played the first half in goal for the Mount, making a pair of saves while not allowing a goal.  Rachel Bourne played the second half and the overtime period. 

The Mount lost at Quinnipiac, 1-0, in double overtime this past Sunday.

The Mount returns to action on Sunday, October 21, with a 1:00 p.m. game at Wagner.
