October 8, 2012--The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team was honored with three weekly Northeast Conference awards today. Senior defender Andrea Bujacich (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) was named the NEC Co-Defender of the Week while freshmen goalkeepers Rachel Bourne (Baltimore, Md./Mercy) and Vicky Cocozza (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) were named NEC Co-Rookies of the Week.
The trio helped the Mount post back-to-back shutouts in a 1-0-1 weekend that moved the team's record to 7-5-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the NEC. The Mount downed Robert Morris, 3-0, on Friday before earning a 0-0 draw with Sacred Heart on Sunday.
Bujacich provides the senior leadership while anchoring a young Mount backline that also features a sophomore and two freshmen in the starting lineup. She he was instrumental in the two shutouts this week, anchoring the young backline and continually clearing the ball as the last line of defense in front of the goalkeepers.
The Mount's freshmen tandem of Vicky Cocozza and Rachel Bourne continue to split each game in goal this year. The freshmen pair combined to post a 0.00 goals against average with nine saves in the Mount's win over Robert Morris and 0-0 double-overtime draw with Sacred Heart. Cocozza made four saves in 110:00 of action for the week while Bourne made five saves in 90:00 of playing time.
For the season, Bourne has started seven of the 13 games, with a 1.38 goals against average, 21 saves and a .700 save percentage while Cocozza has six starts with a 1.64 goals against average, 42 saves and a .792 save percentage.
