Emmitsburg, Md. (September 30, 2012)--Mount St. Mary's lost to Navy, 5-0, in a non-conference women's soccer matchup at Waldron Family Stadium on campus on Sunday afternoon. Freshmen goalkeeper Rachel Bourne and Vicky Cocozza combined for four saves in the game.
Navy improved to 13-1 on the season with their 13th-consecutive victory, the longest current win streak in the nation. The Midshipmen opened the scoring 2:10 into the game when Taylor Batye took a through pass from Julie Schumacher and beat Mount keeper Bourne for the goal.
Morgan Dankanich scored off a corner kick in the 21st minute with Lizzy Rullan adding a goal in the 31st minute to put Navy ahead, 3-0. Rachel Hunter tapped in a cross from Lily Kraemer in the 39th minute to put the Midshipmen up 4-0 at the half.
In the second half, Kelsey Learned finished a cross from Nikki Peterson for the final score of the game.
Navy outshot the Mount, 15-to-5, in the game and held a 7-to-1 advantage in corner kicks. Cocozza allowed one goal with two saves in the second half for the Mount while Bourne made a pair of first-half stops. Elizabeth Hoerner played the first half in goal for Navy, making one save, with Alexes Lopez-Shaw making one save in the second half.
The Mount (6-5) returns to action on Friday, October 5, against Robert Morris in a Northeast Conference game at Waldron Family Stadium. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
