Women's Soccer Visits Bucknell on Tuesday Night

Mount Update:  The Mount has won consecutive games to move to 3-2 on the season.  On Sunday, Alicia Mirando scored two goals to lead the Mount past Howard, 2-1.  Friday night, Ragan Cote scored twice while Mirando and McKenzie Buckwalter also had goals in a 4-1 victory at Saint Peter's.  Mirando leads the Mount in scoring with four goals and eight points while Cote has three goals and one assist for seven points this year.  Freshmen Vicky Cocozza (2.40 GAA, 22 Saves, .786 SV Pct.) and Rachel Bourne (0.80 GAA, 6 Saves, .750 SV Pct.) continue to split time in goal.

About the Bison:  Bucknell saw its four-game win streak snapped with a 5-1 loss at Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday.  Bucknell is 4-3-0 on the year, including a 3-1 mark at home.  Courtney Nelson leads the team with four goals and eight points while Chelsey Garkowski and Cassie Denger each have a goal and three assists for five points.  Sandita McDermott has played every minute in goal this year, posting a 1.57 goals against average and 30 saves in seven games.

The All-Time Series with Bucknell:  Bucknell holds a 9-1-1 lead in the all-time series with the Mountaineers that started in 1992.  The Mount, however, is 1-0-1 against the Bison over the past two meetings, including a 0-0 draw at home last year.  The Mount defeated Bucknell, 3-0, in 2010 in the last matchup in Lewisburg, Pa.

Last Year's Matchup:  Alicia Miller made seven saves to help the Mount to a 0-0 draw with Bucknell last year at the Mount's Waldron Family Stadium.  The Bison held a 19-to-5 edge in shots, including a 5-0 margin in the overtime sessions.  Bucknell's Chelsey Garkowski had a shot denied by a Mount defender on the goal line in the first half after Miller had made a diving stop.  Miller denied Liz Dwornik with a diving stop with just under 29 minutes left.  Bucknell goalkeeper made two saves in the game.

The Offense:  Mount St. Mary's has scored 10 goals over the first five games of the season.  The total is just three shy of last year's season mark of 13 goals.  The Mountaineers have scored four goals in a game twice this year (4-1 victories over Towson and Saint Peter's).  It is the first time since the 2006 season the Mount has had two or more four-goal games in the same season.

Good Start to the Season:  The Mount's two-game win streak has the team at 3-2 on the season.  It is the Mount's best five-game start to a season since the 1994 squad also opened 3-2.  The Mount's best six-game start in program history was 3-2-1 in 2000.

The Mount vs. Ranked Opponents:  The Mount is now 0-3 all-time against a ranked opponent after the 4-0 loss to No. 13 Virginia Tech on August 31.  In the two other matchups with ranked teams, the Mount fell to No. 15 Villanova (6-0 in 2002) and No. 20 Maryland (2-0 in 2001.  In 2002, the Mountaineers lost to No. 15 Villanova, 6-0. 

Baker Moving Up Career Lists:  Senior Kelly Baker scored twice in the Mount's 4-1 win over Towson to open the season.  It was the second career two-goal game for Baker, who scored a pair against Fairleigh Dickinson in 2009.  She now has 10 career goals, tied for 10th on the Mount's all-time list.  Baker is also tied for 12th all-time at the Mount with 24 career points (10g, 4a).

Season Openers:  The Mount won a season-opener for the second consecutive season with a 4-1 victory over Towson.  The Mount is now 3-18 all-time in season-opening games.

Youth Will Be Served:  The 2012 Mount women's soccer roster features 11 new players, including 10 freshmen.  Overall, 17 of the Mount's 24 players are freshmen or sophomores.

Preseason Poll:  The Mount was picked to finish 11th in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches poll.

Celebrating 20 Years of Mount Soccer:  The Mount will be celebrating 20 years of women's soccer history this season.  The Mount will have an alumni game on Sunday, September 30, at 10 am and will honor a 20th Anniversary Team at halftime of the 1:00 p.m. game against Navy that day.
