Women's Soccer Edged by Navy, 1-0, on Late Goal

Annapolis, Md. (August 27, 2010)-The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team was edged by Navy, 1-0, on a late header in the team's season opener on Friday night.

Navy's Ashlynn Soellner headed in a Katelyn George corner kick with 5:27 left in the game to provide the only goal of the contest.

The Midshipmen (1-1-1) outshot the Mount, 10-to-5, in the game, including 7-to-1 in the second half. Mount goalkeeper Alicia Miller (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) made three saves in the loss.

In a conservative first half, the teams combined for just seven shots as neither team was able to get on the scoreboard.

The Mount returns to action with its home opener against George Mason on Tuesday, August 31. Kick-off will be at 7:00 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium.

Game Notes: Navy now holds a 11-0 lead in the all-time series...The Mount is 1-18 all-time in season openers, winning its only one in 2005.
