Danbury, Conn. (May 17, 2018) – Mount St. Mary's University women's lacrosse junior goalie Jillian Petito has been named to the All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I Second Team, as announced by the league office on Thursday.
Petito continues to add to her accolades after being named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Year earlier this month, as she became the fourth player in Mount program history to earn the award, joining Jacqui Ricca (2007), two-time winner Aly Jost (2009 & 2011), and Melissa Cox (2015).
Petito was dominant between the pipes for the Mountaineers this season, registering a .563 save percentage, 8.53 goals against average, and 11.12 saves per contest in 17 starts. The junior net minder rounded out her season with the top save percentage in the nation, and ranked third in goals against average and seventh in saves per game. Petito made double-digit saves in 11 contests on the year, and posted a .500 save percentage or better in 13 of 17 games. The Ocean City, Md. native registered the Mount's third shutout in program history back in late February in a 16-0 win at Presbyterian. In the team's NEC Semifinal matchup at top-seeded Bryant in early May, Petito stopped 13 shots to help the Mount nearly pull off the comeback upset over the Bulldogs, and collected NEC All-Tournament Team honors for her effort.
