Baltimore, Md. (March 15, 2013) -- The Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team fell, 18-4, to in-state rival UMBC on Friday night. Four different players scored for the Mount in the loss.
The Mount (1-7) trailed the Retrievers (5-2) by just six at halftime, 9-3, but UMBC connected on another nine goals in the second half and held the Mount to one goal in the final 30 minutes of play to seal the victory.
Lindsay Diaz's team-leading 11th goal of the season eight minutes into the game leveled the score at 1-1.
The next five goals went to the Retrievers, however, before Hannah Gutcher's free position goal with 6:23 to go in first half made it 6-2 in favor of UMBC.
For UMBC, Abby Wilson scored twice and Mary Milligan scored once for a 9-2 lead. Wilson and Milligan finished with three goals apiece on the night.
In the Mount's final offensive possession of the first half, Erin Seipp scored her eighth goal of the campaign to cut the UMBC advantage down to 9-3 heading into the locker rooms.
Out of the break, the Retrievers were able to score six more times before the Mount's last goal of the game by Megan Gluck with 13:20 to play.
Kristen Bilney's five goals led the UMBC offense to go with two goals and four assists from Alyssa Semones.
Gabe Little picked up a game-high six ground balls for the Mount.
The Mount opens Northeast Conference play on Friday, March 22, with a 4 p.m. showdown with Wagner at Waldron Family Stadium on campus.
