Women's Lacrosse Falls to La Salle in Season Opener

Philadelphia, Pa. (February 16, 2013)--Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse lost at La Salle, 12-6, in the season opener on Saturday afternoon.  Erin Seipp paced the Mountaineers with a goal and an assist in the loss.

Hayley Tomlinson gave the Mount an early 1-0 advantage when she scored just 1:34 into the game.  The Explorers answered with the next three goals, but Lindsay Diaz stopped the run with a tally to make it 3-2.

La Salle's Erin McCabe tallied back-to-back goals before Hannah Gutcher answered for the Mount to cut the deficit to 5-3 midway through the opening half.  La Salle added a pair of goals over a 27-second span, and went to the locker room with a 7-3 lead.

In the second stanza, Allie Fife converted a free position shot to make it 8-4, and Sam Sparr's goal with 11:54 left cut La Salle's lead to 10-5.  La Salle countered with a Katelyn Fay goal before Seipp scored with 5:34 left to make it 11-6. McCabe completed a hat trick for La Salle to round out the scoring.

Sarah Jane Leder started in goal for the Mount, making seven saves while allowing seven goals in the first half.  Steph Rurkowski played the second half, making four saves while allowing five scores.  Defensively, Kaitlyn Larrimore and Melissa Cox each had three caused turnovers.  La Salle held a 30-to-15 shot advantage in the game.

The Mountaineers are back in action on Wednesday, February 20, with a 4:00 p.m. road game at Johns Hopkins.
