EMMITSBURG, Md. – In collaboration with Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse alumni, Mount St. Mary's University has set up a memorial fund in the memory of Abigail O'Beirne, who passed away on Oct. 31. The money raised will help the Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse program.

O'Beirne, a 2008 graduate of the Mount, was a four-year letterwinner on the Mount women's lacrosse team from 2005-08. She was a member of the 2005 and 2007 Northeast Conference regular season championship squads while the 2005 team won the NEC Tournament and participated in the NCAA Division I Tournament. O'Beirne also helped the team to the NEC Tournament all four seasons and to the NEC Championship Game in 2007.
After she graduated from the Mount, O'Beirne began her coaching career at King's College, a Division III school in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., where she earned her master's degree. She was a teacher for students with special needs in grades one through six at Holy Innocents School in the Juniata Park section of Philadelphia and was the girl's lacrosse coach at Little Flower High School.
Abigail O'Beirne was one of four siblings in her family to attend Mount St. Mary's. Her brother Sean graduated from the Mount in 2006 while her brother Kevin is a senior and her sister Lily is a junior at the Mount. In addition, her aunt Denise Kenney played women's basketball for the Mountaineers from 1975-77.
