Women's Lacrosse Will Be Fourth Seed In NEC Tournament At Sacred Heart

EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team will be the fourth seed in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament and will face top seed and host Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Conn. Game time to be announced.

The Mount (7-10, 6-3 NEC) defeated the Pioneers (8-8, 7-2 NEC) 11-6 on Apr. 1. Sophomore Lindsay Diaz (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) paced the Mountaineers with a career-high four goals while Emily Pepe fueled Sacred Heart with a tally and two assists in the regular season meeting.

Sacred Heart rallied from a 9-5 halftime deficit to down Central Connecticut State 10-9 on Sunday. Quinnipiac's 8-6 loss at the hands of Bryant on Sunday gave the Pioneers the No. 1 seed and the right to host the tournament.  The Bobcats will face third-seed Monmouth in the other semifinal.

Mount St. Mary's and Sacred Heart have faced each other twice in the NEC Tournament. The Mount rallied for a 6-5 win in the 2004 NEC Semifinals and then lost 14-5 in the NEC Semifinals in 2010. The Mountaineers lead the all-time series 12-5.

The Mount will be making its 10th-straight NEC Tournament appearance and 14th in the last 15 years. The squad has advanced to the NEC Championship Game in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2011 with titles in 2004 and 2005.
