Little Named Northeast Conference Defensive Player Of The Week

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Gabe Little (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll), a member of the Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team, has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Apr. 9-15. It is the sophomore's first weekly conference honor.

Little, a 5-8 defender, posted six ground balls and five caused turnovers to help the Mount to a 2-0 week and push the team to the brink of clinching its 10th-straight NEC Tournament berth and 14th appearance in the last 15 years. The sophomore posted three ground balls and a caused turnover in a 19-9 victory against LIU Brooklyn on Friday and then posted three ground balls and a career-high four caused miscues in an 8-6 win against Wagner on Sunday. In addition, the sophomore is the anchor of the Mountaineers' defense and helped the Mount register a 7.50 goals against average in the week.

Little leads the team with 31 ground balls and ranks second with 21 caused turnovers this season.

It marks the sixth time since the inception of the NEC Defensive Player award in 2008 a Mount St. Mary's player has picked up the honor and the first since Brigid McTavish (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) received her second nod last season for the week of Mar. 28-Apr. 3, 2011.

The Mount enters its final regular season game 7-9 overall and 6-2 in league play. The squad travels to Monmouth on Friday for a 3 p.m. match.
