EMMITSBURG, Md. - Brigid McTavish (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll), a member of the Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team, has been named the Northeast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Mar. 28-Apr. 3. It is the second time in her career that she has earned the honor.
McTavish anchored a suffocating Mount St. Mary's defense last week, allowing just nine goals in a pair of league wins. She posted a 4.77 goals against average and .591 save percentage as the first place Mountaineers improved to 4-0 against NEC competition. McTavish turned away eight shots in a 10-6 win against Long Island on Friday and six more in a 13-4 victory over Wagner on Sunday. She also scooped up three ground balls against the Seahawks.
McTavish has 81 saves, a 10.81 goals against average and a .389 save percentage this season. The junior is second in the conference for goals against average. In league games, McTavish leads the NEC in goals against average (5.66) and ranks second in save percentage (.577).
For her career, McTavish ranks second in minutes played (2455.58), third in victories (18) and fifth in saves (332).
McTavish also received the NEC Defensive Player of the Week award for the week of Mar. 23-29, 2009. It marks the fifth time since the inception of the NEC Defensive Player award in 2008 a Mount player has picked up the honor and the first since Jackie Kearney received her second nod last season for the week of Apr. 5-11, 2010.
Mount St. Mary's (5-7, 4-0 NEC) has opened the NEC slate 4-0 for the fifth time in program history and the first since 2009. The Mount concludes a three-game homestand against Monmouth under the lights at Waldron Family Stadium on Friday. Game time is 7 p.m.
