Emmitsburg, Md. (July 3, 2013) – In her final round of the season at the Northeast Conference Championships, freshman Amanda Reach of the Mount women's golf team cemented her spot in program history with her best round of 76 to tie for sixth place in the three-day tournament and take No. 16 on our countdown of the 2012-13 Top 20 Moments.
With 36 holes in the book, Reach headed into Sunday's final round in 15th place and was able to make up ground with a 76 (+4) to finish in a four-way tie for sixth overall. Her performance landed her on the NEC All-Tournament team.
The North Pocono product carded an opening round 78 (+6) on April 26 behind a birdie on the par-4 17th hole to tie for 10th place after one day. Despite another birdie on 17 in the second round, Reach dropped to 15th place with a score of 82 (+10).
Needing a strong round to jump back into the top 10, Reach responded with a historic round that included two birdies in a third-round 76 (+4) to finish tied for sixth overall out of 55 competitors. On the back nine, Reach fired birdies on the 13th and 16th holes, which are a par-4 and par-5, respectively.
Her performance at the LPGA Legends Course in Daytona Beach, Fla. was among the best in the program's 17-year history. Her sixth-place finish at the NEC Championships was the best in school history, as was her three-round total of 236 strokes. As far as single rounds are concerned, Reach's third round 76 tied for the fifth-best single round total, while her round one score of 78 was tied for the 14th best.
Of the Mount's spring golfers, Reach's 85.6 strokes per round average was the lowest on the team. During the course of the fall and spring schedule, Reach tied with sophomore Kelsey Hayward for the most rounds played (22) and most events (10).
