Women's Golf Heads to Navy Spring Invitational

COMPETITION: Navy Spring Invitational
WHERE: Naval Academy Golf Club, Annapolis, Md. 
WHEN: March 23, 2013 

TEEING OFF: The Mount St. Mary's women's golf team will compete for the second time in six days with the Navy Spring Invitational on Saturday, March 23, at the Naval Academy Golf Club. 

THE COMPETITION: The Mount will go head-to-head with Navy, which was elevated from club to varsity status in October. The Mids made their Division I debut at the C&F Bank Invitational last weekend, placing one slot behind the Mount in the competition with a team score of 712 to take 27th place. 

LAST TIME OUT: The Mount began the spring season at the C&F Invitational in a rain-shortened event in Williamsburg, Va. Amanda Reach turned in the top two-day total of 164 to finish in a tie for 74th place in the field. She shot back-to-back rounds of 82 to reach her mark of 164. Sophomore Kelsey Hayward saw a dramatic 13-stroke improvement in the second round, shooting 80 after a first-round 93. As a team, the Mount placed 26th in the field. 

SPRING AHEAD: In the spring opener, four players posted their top scores of the season. Kelsey Hayward's round of 80 at the C&F Bank Invitational was her best score for a single round this season. Reach's back-to-back rounds of 82 at last weekend's competition were her best scores of the 2012-13 campaign, while Sara Fuss and Nicole Fazio also had season-best first rounds with scores of 86 and 88, respectively. 

NEC CHAMPIONSHIPS: The 2013 Northeast Conference Championships are set for April 26-28 at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. 

UP NEXT: After the weekend action, the Mount will travel to Beallsville, Md. for the Hoya Invitational at The Members Club at Four Streams, April 8-9.
