DRAPER, Va. - Marisol Doglioli (Aosta, Italy/Clearwater Central Catholic [Fla.]) posted the second-best single-round total and third-best two round score in program history to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's golf team to a seventh-place standing at the Highlianders Invitational on Sunday. The event was a 36-hole one-day competition.
Doglioli posted an 82 in the first round and then came back in the final 18 holes of the afternoon with a round of 73 to finish in 14th place with a score of 155, 10 strokes behind the medalist. The freshman's one-over round of 73 is second-best in team history only to Megan Corbett's round of 71 in the second round of the NEC Championships on Apr. 25, 2009. Dogiioli also notched the third-best two-round score in program history with Corbett's 154 at the NEC Championships and Autumn Serruta's two-round score of 154 at the Lonnie Barton Invitational on Mar. 8, 2011.
It was the second collegiate competition for Doglioli. The freshman recorded rounds of 78 and 79 for a two-day total of 157 (fourth-best two-round score in team history) at the Tignanelli Invitational on Sept. 10. Doglioli is the first women's golfer to shoot in the 70's in three of her first four rounds in program history.
Kelsey Hayward (Seekonk, Mass./St. Mary's Academy) (38th place, 171), Amanda Reach (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) (42nd place, 181), Abbey Fry (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) (42nd place, 181) and Sara Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) (46th place, 191) rounded out the Mount's five competitors.
Gardner-Webb won the event after carding a 599 in the 36-hole one-day event, nine strokes ahead of Winthrop (608) while Radford (612), Wofford (621) and High Point (624) rounded out the Top-5 teams in the field. The Mountaineers registered a 341 in the first round and a 342 in the second round for two-round score of 683 to finish in seventh place.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action at the ECAC Championships on Friday.
