PHOENIX, Md. - Marisol Doglioli (Aosta, Italy/Clearwater Central Catholic [Fla.]) finished 12th to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's golf team to a 14th-place standing after the first round of the Tignanelli Towson Invitational on Sunday. The event marked the first competition for the 2012-13 season.
Doglioli finished her first collegiate round with a 78, which is the best mark in a collegiate debut by a Mount women's golfer in program history. It is the 10th-best one-round score in program history and the freshman is the eighth player in team history to register a 78 or better. The freshman sits in 12th place going into the final round and four strokes behind the current leader.
Playing in her first collegiate match and opening on the 10th tee, Dogiioli started her collegiate career with a bogey and a triple bogey for a score of four over after two holes. The freshman then played even for the final six holes to make the turn at four over. She then notched her first career birdie on No. 2 and also birdied six and nine while recording bogeys on one, four and five along with a double bogey on three.
Kelsey Hayward (Seekonk, Mass./Methacton) (41st place, 82), Amanda Reach (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) (72nd place, 90), Abbey Fry (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) (77th place, 92) and Nicole Fazio (Lower Gwynedd, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) (88th place, 105) also competed for the Mount.
St. John's leads the two-day event with a score of 305, four strokes ahead of Delaware (309) while William & Mary (312), Old Dominion (312) and Hofstra (322) round out the Top-5 teams. The Mountaineers sit in 14th place with a score of 342.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action in the final round of the Tignanelli Towson Invitational. The Mount will be paired with Bethune-Cookman and Quinnipiac and will tee off on the 10th tee starting at 8:15 a.m.
