last time at that event… Megan Corbett finished 18th to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's golf team to an eighth-place finish at the Northeast Conference Women's Golf Championships on Apr. 23, 2011. Corbett, who is the only player in program history to notch a Top-10 finish at the championships, posted an 87 in the first round, a 78 in the second round and an 86 in the final round to card a three-round score of 251 and finish in 18th place, 26 strokes behind the medalist. It marks the seventh time in program history a player has finished in the Top-18 in the tournament to earn a flag. Corbett joins Shannon Prettyman as the only two players to notch two Top-18 standings and Corbett also owns the top finish in program history after finishing eighth in 2009. The senior now owns the two-best marks in program history with her 78 in the second round on Friday and a 71 in the second round at the 2009 championships while her 165 two-round total is the third-best mark and her third-round score is good for fourth-best in program history at the NEC Championships. Sarah Roe (19th place, 253), Autumn Serruta (28th place, 260), Christina Hall (42nd place, 271) and Nicole Fazio (52nd place, 301) also competed for the Mountaineers. Roe and Serruta also posted Top-10 three-round marks in program history at the league tournament. The Mountaineers shot 341 in the first round, 346 in the second round and a 348 in the final round to post a score of 1035. Each of the three single-round rank in the Top-10 in program history at the championships while the 687 two-round score and the 1035 total are both the second-best marks in team history.
last time out… Kelsey Hayward finished 14th to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's golf team to a fifth-place standing at the Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational on Apr. 18. Hayward posted an 89 and an 84 on the first day and then notched an 80 on Tuesday to finish with a score of 253 and in 14th place, 18 strokes behind the medalist. Sarah Roe (17th place, 257), Nicole Fazio (18th place, 258), Christina Hall (24th place, 264) and Abbey Fry (26th place, 267) rounded out the Mount's team competitors. Rebecca Lynch (28th place, 274) and Sara Fuss (34th place, 296) competed in the event as an individual.
next on the green... This event concludes the Mount's season.
golf fix… The Mount women's golf team was featured on Feb. 27 edition of the Golf Fix on the Golf Channel.
double your pleasure… Senior Sarah Roe won the Gettysburg Invitational for the second-straight season on Sept. 19. The senior took the honor last season by carding a round of 76 at Quail Valley. This year at the event, Roe posted a 79 to earn the medalist honors for the second time.
making their marks… Seniors Christina Hall and Sarah Roe have etched their names into the Mount record book. Sarah Roe holds the second and fourth-best single-round in program history. The senior fired a 75 in the first round of the Holiday Inn Pittsburgh Airport Colonial Classic on Oct. 10 after shooting a 76 at the Gettysburg Invitational last year to win the event. Roe also shot a 78 in her career to rank ninth on the chart. Hall has posted five marks on the single-round Top-10 including a 76 at the Mount St. Mary's Fall Classic in 2008. Hall also has three of the squad's Top-10 for two round scores and has the top mark for career average at the Mount (86.7) while Roe is in third place (87.2).
moving on up… As a team, the Mount women's golf team continued to make improvements in the last four years. During that stretch, the squad has posted all 10 of its Top-10 single rounds and nine of the 10 for two-round standards in program history. Last year, the squad averaged a program record 341.1 strokes per round.
new to the mountain... Joining first-year head coach Kevin Farrell in 2011-12 are freshmen Sara Fuss, Kelsey Hayward and Jen Kim for their first year in Emmitsburg. Hayward and Kim will be making their collegiate debut at the Towson Invitational.
about the coach... Kevin Farrell begins his first season as the women's golf head coach in 2011-12 and will enter his third season at the helm of the men's golf team. Farrell was a standout golfer on the Mountaineers men's golf team from 2004-08. He finished in the Top-10 at the NEC Championships in both his junior and senior seasons to earn spots on the All-NEC team. Farrell is one of five players in team history to earn finish in the Top-10 at the NEC Championships twice in his career and his three-round score of 220 at the 2008 NEC Championships is still the record for three rounds at the NEC Championships.
