Third Quarter Surge Leads Robert Morris Past Mount St. Mary’s in Season Finale

Moon Township, Pa. (March 4, 2018) – Robert Morris outscored Mount St. Mary's 21-8 in the third quarter to take command of the game, as the Colonials came away with a 66-54 victory in the Mount's final game of the season on Sunday.

Daly Sullivan drained five of her six three-point attempts on the afternoon to lead the Mount with a team-high 15 points. Sullivan closes out the year with 75 three-pointers, which is good for second-most in a season in program history, trailing only Myriam Baccouche's mark of 79 threes during the 2003-04 campaign.

Juliette Lawless added 12 points in the contest, while seniors Caroline Hummell (11 pts) and Katrice Dickson (9 pts) combined to score 20. Dickson also chipped in six rebounds and a team-best five assists in the tilt. Dickson (771 career points) and Hummell (621 career points) both closed out their Mount St. Mary's careers among the top 52 scorers in program history

Megan Callahan led RMU with 17 points, and Nadege Pluviose and Nneka Ezeigbo each added nine.

The Mount shot 40 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from deep, while Robert Morris posted a 42.9 percent mark overall and a 33.3 percent flip from three-point land.

The Mount (9-20, 6-12 NEC) shut down Robert Morris (23-6, 16-2 NEC) in the first quarter of play, holding the Colonials to just 3-of-14 shooting from the field. Sullivan knocked down all three of her three-pointers in the quarter, as the Mount opened a 14-8 advantage at the end of one.

Dickson hit a pair from long range in the opening three minutes of the second quarter as the Mount took a 20-15 advantage at the 7:10 mark. RMU stifled the Mountaineers over the next six and a half minutes of play, holding them scoreless while the Colonials opened a two-point advantage during the stretch for the team's first lead since early in the first.

Jatarrikah Settle ended the Mount's scoreless drought with a bucket in the lane with 30 seconds remaining, but Ezeigbo responded with a jumper on the other end to close out the half, sending RMU into the break with a 24-22 advantage.

Both teams struggled offensively in the opening half, with Robert Morris (.310) holding a slight shooting advantage over the Mount (.276). The Mountaineers did knock down 5-of-15 from long range, with Sullivan and Dickson combining for all five of the makes.

Robert Morris outscored Mount St. Mary's by a 21-8 margin in the third quarter while holding the Mountaineers to just nine field goal attempts in the period, as the Colonials took commanding lead of the game. Callahan drained a pair of three-pointers and registered 10 points in the frame to pace RMU.

Sullivan drilled back-to-back three-pointers early in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 50-38, but the Colonials answered with the next four points to stretch the lead back to 16 with 7:00 showing on the clock.

Trailing by 15 with 3:47 left in the game, the Mountaineers were able to cut it down to a 10-point game following a long ball from Dickson and a steal and bucket from Settle, but the Mount wasn't able to get within single-digits the rest of the way as RMU closed out the 66-54 victory.

Mount St. Mary's finishes the season at 9-20 overall and 6-12 in Northeast Conference play. The Mountaineers posted their highest scoring average in a season (63.9 ppg) since the 2013-14 campaign.
