Fairfield, Conn. (February 12, 2018) – Sacred Heart outscored Mount St. Mary's by 11 in the fourth quarter to come away with the 56-44 victory on Monday night in Northeast Conference women's basketball action at the Pitt Center.
Katrice Dickson, Daly Sullivan and Juliette Lawless combined to score 42 of the Mount's 44 points on the night. Dickson netted a game-high 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, as the senior followed up her career-high 24-point performance last time out with the second-highest scoring night of her career. Sullivan drained four three-pointers for 15 points in the contest, and Lawless added nine points, 11 rebounds and three assists.
For the Pioneers, Erin Storck led the way with 16 points on 7-for-16 shooting, while Adrienne Hagood added 13 points and Katherine Haines chipped 11 points and nine boards.
Mount St. Mary's trailed 37-36 at the start of the fourth quarter, but briefly grabbed the lead on a corner three from Dickson at the 8:03 mark. Tykera Carter countered on the other end with a three of her own as SHU regained the advantage.
A three-pointer from Storck as the midway mark of the quarter gave the Pioneers a five-point advantage, before Haines followed with a nice spin move and finish in the paint to extend the Pioneer advantage to 48-41 with 4:34 on the clock.
Sullivan put an end to the Pioneer run with her fourth three-pointer of the tilt at the 3:45 mark, trimming the Mount's deficit to 48-44. SHU responded with a bucket from Adrianne Hagood and another three from Storck to make it a 53-44 game with just 2:34 remaining, and Candice Leatherwood sealed the victory with a deep three with just over a minute showing on the clock as the Pioneers went on for the 56-44 win.
The Mount (8-16, 5-8 NEC) shot 41 percent as a team and 37.5 percent from long range in the tilt, while Sacred Heart (9-15, 5-8 NEC) posted a 38.9 percent mark from the field and shot 38.1 percent from three-point land. The Mount outrebounded SHU, 32-26, but the Pioneers won the turnover battle, forcing 23 turnovers by the Mount.
Mount St. Mary's opened a 15-11 advantage over Sacred Heart after the first quarter of play behind solid shooting from beyond the arc. The Mount went 3-for-4 from deep in the quarter, including a pair of threes from Sullivan.
The Mountaineers maintained their lead over SHU for nearly the entire second quarter until late in the frame. With the Mount holding a three-point advantage at the 3:15 mark, Hagood knocked down a three to tie things at 24-24, and Storck followed with a jumper in the paint to give the Pioneers their first lead since early in the first.
On the Mount's final possession of the half, Lawless went coast-to-coast and finished in the paint as the Mountaineers regained the lead, 27-26, which they took into the halftime break.
Sullivan paced the Mount with 12 points on 3-of-5 shooting from deep in the opening half, while Lawless added seven points and seven rebounds.
The Mount returns home for a matchup with Bryant on Saturday, February 17 at 4 p.m.
