Emmitsburg, Md. (February 18, 2013)--Jackie Brewer and Sydney Henderson combined for 46 points, but it was not enough as Mount St. Mary's lost to visiting Bryant, 69-62, on Monday night at Knott Arena. Brewer matched her career high with 25 points while Henderson chipped in 21 in the loss.
The Mount held a 42-33 lead with 17:30 remaining on back-to-back buckets from Selina Mann and Brewer. Bryant (10-14, 6-7 NEC) turned the game around at that point, scoring 19 unanswered points over the next seven minutes to take a 52-42 advantage. The Mount had eight of its 19 turnovers in that seven-minute stretch.
Mount St. Mary's (11-14, 7-7 NEC) hung tough, using a 7-1 run to cut the deficit to 59-56 with 2:26 left. Brewer started the run with a basket, Henderson and Ashley Christie added free throws, and Tara Lonergan capped the spurt with her first career three-point basket.
On the ensuing possession, Bryant's Jenniqua Bailey scored a tough basket in the lane for a 61-56 lead. Henderson missed a three-pointer, and after turnovers by each team, Bryant salted the game away by hitting 8-of-8 at the foul line in the final minute.
Brewer was 9-for-19 from the field and 4-for-9 from three-point range to finish with 25 points, matching her career high set against Fairleigh Dickinson earlier this year. Henderson added 21 points and seven rebounds in the loss. Christie chipped in five points, four rebounds and six assists off the bench while Lonergan had seven points, six rebounds and a pair of blocks in the game.
Bailey led Bryant with 16 points while Katie Whittington added 11 points and four assists. Naana Ankoma-Mensa had 10 points, 18 rebounds and four steals with Breanna Rucker tallying 10 points and eight boards off the bench for the Bulldogs.
The Mount returns to action on Saturday, February 23, when St. Francis Brooklyn visits Knott Arena. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
