Mount St. Mary's Holds on for 50-48 Victory over Central Connecticut State

Emmitsburg, Md. (February 16, 2013)--Mount St. Mary's held on for a 50-48 victory over visiting Central Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon at Knott Arena.  Sydney Henderson led the Mount with 14 points while Jacqueline Brewer chipped in 13 in the win.

Mount St. Mary's (11-13, 7-6 NEC) seemed to have the game in control, using a 14-4 run to take a 50-32 advantage with 7:26 left.  Brewer and Tara Lonergan each had four points during the Mount's 14-4 second-half run that was capped by a Kayla Grossett spin move in the lane for a 50-32 lead.

The Blue Devils (11-12, 5-7 NEC) held the Mount off the scoreboard the rest of the way, cutting the Mount advantage to 50-48 with 31 seconds remaining on Jessica Babe's bucket.  The Mount's Selina Mann was fouled with 13 seconds left, but she missed the free throw, giving CCSU a chance to tie the score.  On the ensuing possession, Jaclyn Babe's jumper at the buzzer bounced off the rim, and the Mount escaped with the victory.

Henderson finished the day with 14 points, three steals and a pair of assists with Brewer adding 13 points, three rebounds and three steals.  Lonergan had 12 points and seven rebounds with Selina Mann dishing out a game-high seven assists.

Lauren Arbogast led CCSU with 18 points and 10 rebounds with Jessica Babe chipping in 10 points in the loss.

The Mount took control from the opening tip, taking a 10-2 lead five minutes into the contest.  The lead ballooned to 21-6 with 10:21 left in the first half on a Henderson jumper, and the Mountaineers took a 30-20 advantage to the locker room.

The Mount returns to action on Monday, February 18, with a 7:00 p.m. home game against Bryant.
