Brenden Chavis Brings Home Gold Medal in Weight Throw as Mount Indoor Track Teams Finish in Sixth at NEC Championships

FINAL RESULTS

Staten Island, N.Y. (February 18, 2017)—The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's indoor track and field teams each finished in sixth place at the 2017 Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Saturday.

The Mount women's team finished in sixth place at the meet with 50 points.  Sacred Heart won the title with 126.66 points, followed by LIU Brooklyn (109.5), Fairleigh Dickinson (87), Central Connecticut (76.5), Robert Morris (59.3), the Mount (50), Saint Francis U (48), Bryant (42), Wagner (40) and St. Francis Brooklyn (22).

The men's team finished in sixth place for the Mount with 56.5 points.  LIU Brooklyn captured the title with 141 points, followed by Sacred Heart (106), Wagner (98.5), Saint Francis U 998), Central Connecticut (86.5), the Mount (56.5), Fairleigh Dickinson (48.5), St. Francis Brooklyn (12) and Bryant (12).

For the women, Mariah McLane seventh in the 400m dash (58.92), Chardane Logan eighth in the 500m (1:20.12), Maddie Kole third in the 800m (2:14.59) and Clarke Hooper fifth in the 800m (2:17.18).  The Mount had three of the top five finishers in the pole vault.  Elissa Ingram finished in second with a mark of 3.55m (11' 7.75") while Moriah Fitzgerald finished in fourth in the event after a jump off with a mark of 3.55m (11' 7.75") as well.  Rachel Finn finished in fifth with a mark of 3.45m (11' 3.75").  Erin Sample was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 13.12m (43' 0.5").

For the men, Brenden Chavis took home a gold medal in the weight throw with a mark of 18.26m (59' 11"), more than four feet ahead of teammate Chase Boyle, who finished in second place with a toss of 16.86m (55' 3.75").

Josh Poole finished third in the 400m dash with a time of 49.45 seconds with teammate Julian Woods finishing right behind at 49.46 seconds in fourth place.  Woods also finished in fifth place in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.10 seconds.
