The Mount St. Mary's women's indoor track and field team returns to action at the Father Diamond Invitational hosted by George Mason University on Saturday.
Schools expected to participate at the Father Diamond Invitational include Virginia union, McDaniel, Coppin State (W), Hampton, James Madison (W), Virginia State, Virginia Union, Navy (W), VCU, Morgan State, Norfolk State, the Mount (W) and host George Mason.
The Mountaineers are returning to action for the first time since the season-opening Navy Lid Lifter meet on December 1. In that meet, Erin Sample took home first place in the shot put with a mark of 12.83m to pace the Mountaineers. Chelsea Wright finished in a four-way tie for second in the high jump with a mark of 1.60m, Mariah McLane finished in seventh place in the 400m dash, Moriah Fitzgerald tied for third in the pole vault (3.50m), Elissa Ingram fifth in the pole vault (3.35m), Kenedi Facey fifth in the long jump and Shantell Karbegh fifth in the triple jump
A freshman, Wright was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week after her mark of 1.60m in the long jump in her Mount St. Mary's debut at Navy Lid Lifter. That was the top mark of the first weekend in the NEC.
The Mount men's team will head to the Navy Invitational on Jan. 13-14 before both teams compete at the Bucknell Gulden Invitational on Saturday, January 21.
