Cambridge, Mass. (March 2, 2013) -- Mount St. Mary's capped off the four-day Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in fifth place with 263 points following Saturday's conclusion at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Individually, Mount swimmers broke two school records on the day.
Mount sophomore Erin Regan qualified for the finals of the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.37 in the preliminaries. The defending champion in the event, Regan followed up in the finals with a school-record time of 2:02.88 to secure second place overall.
In the prelims of the 100 yard freestyle, Courtney Griffith and Cat Coppler finished ninth and tenth, respectively, to move onto the B Finals for the event. Griffith posted a time of 52.90 seconds followed closely by Coppler in 52.98 seconds. In the B finals, Griffith was the top finisher and again Coppler was the next swimmer to touch the wall. Griffith captured the school's 100 yard freestyle record on the day.
As a unit, the Mount's 400 yard freestyle relay team put together a fifth-place finish.
Saint Francis U was crowned the team champion with 732.5 points, edging out Wagner in second place with 715. Bryant placed third with 669.5 points and Central Connecticut was fourth with 648 team points. The Mount finished ahead of Sacred Heart (169 points) in sixth and St. Francis Brooklyn (143) in seventh.
