Griffith-Regan Tandem Fuels Women's Swimming To 130-75 Win At Catholic
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Courtney Griffith (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Erin Regan (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) each won two events to help Mount St. Mary's take nine of the 11 races en route to a 130-75 victory against Catholic in non-conference women's swimming action on Friday night.
Griffith won the 200 free (1:59.40) and the 100 back (1:02.04) while Regan took home victories in the 200 IM (2:16.70) and the 100 fly (1:00.41). The duo also teamed up with Lenna Castro Marquez (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) and Catherine Sukovich (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) for a first-place standing in the 200-free relay (1:51.38).
Katie Powell (Sewall, N.J./Washington Township) won the 500 free (5:35.93) and finished second in the 1000 free (11:32.41) while Mollie Walsh (Havetown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) was victorious in the 50 free (25.78) and placed second in the 100 free (56.86). Anne Thelen (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) took home the final individual victory in the 100 breast (1:13.74). Thelen along with Patricia Yam (Manila, Philippines/Rosary), Walsh and Cat Coppler (Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi) opened the competition with a win in the 200-medley relay (1:57.68).
Marquez finished second in the 200 free (2:08.12), and Amanda Malmstrom (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) placed second in the 200 IM (2:24.39) and third in both the 100 free (59.75) and the 100 breast (1:18.55). Sukovich was third in the 50 free (27.19) while Victoria Shaw (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) finished third in the 1000 free (12:01.94) and the 500 back (5:45.64).
Mount St. Mary's will host Loyola on Feb. 2 in the final tune up before the Northeast Conference Swimming & Diving Championships. First splash is set for 11 a.m.
