EMMITSBURG, Md. – Cat Coppler (Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi), a member of the Mount St. Mary's women's swimming team, has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Swimmer of the Week for the week of Nov. 15-21. It is the junior's second career weekly honor.
Coppler was the lone Mount swimmer to win an individual event at the Radford Invitational, and was part of two winning relays on the way to leading Mount St. Mary's to a fourth place team finish. The junior also recorded two second-place finishes, and swam in five finals. Coppler won the 200 back with a time of 2:07.32 and helped the Mount to relay wins in the 200 free (1:37.38) and the 400 free (3:32.41), as well as a new meet record in the 400 free relay after she swam the lead-off leg. She took second in the 200 free in a time of 1:55.48 and the 100 back in 59:52.
It marks the third time in program history the Mount has earned NEC Swimmer of the Week honors. Coppler and senior Courtney Griffith (Westminster, Md./Westminster) took home the award for the first week of the 2010-11 campaign. Griffith was also named the NEC Swimmer of the Week for the week of Nov. 9-15, 2011. Katie Fives was the first Mountaineer to earn recognition from the NEC when she was named NEC Diver of the Week in 2008.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action at James Madison on Dec. 1 and will also compete against Radford in the tri-meet.
