RADFORD, Va. – The 400-free relay team finished the Radford Invitational by winning the relay with meet record to pace the Mount St. Mary's women's swimming team to a fourth-place standing on Saturday.
The Mount, who opened the three-day event with a victory in the 200-free relay, closed the competition in grand fashion. Cat Coppler (Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi), Mollie Walsh (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll), Courtney Griffith (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Erin Regan (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) teamed up to win the 400-free relay with a new meet-record time of 3:32.41. Walsh, Griffith and Coppler were also a member of the winning 200-free relay on Thursday.
Coppler won the 200 back with a time of 2:07.32 for the squad's only individual victory and also finished eighth in the 1650 free (18:05.55). Griffith finished second in the 100 free (53.09) while Regan was second in the 200 fly (2:06.39) and ninth in the 1650 free (18:19.23).
Katie Powell (Sewall, N.J./Washington Township) placed 10th in the 200 fly (2:20.33) and 16th in the 1650 free (19:37.21). Amanda Malmstrom (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) was 12th in the 200 back (2:18.84) and Rebecca Kasda (Baltimore, Md./Glenelg) placed 16th in the event (2:32.58). Victoria Shaw (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) finished 16th in the 200 breast (2:48.17) and 17th in the 1650 free (19:39.43).
Campbell won the three-day event with a score of 1225.5 while Radford (664.5), Millersville (553), the Mount (505), UNC-Ashville (350) and North Carolina A&T (162) rounded out the six-team field.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action at James Madison on Dec. 1. Radford will also join the competition.
