Women's Swimming Picked Fifth In NEC Preseason Coaches Poll
EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Mount St. Mary's women's swimming team has been picked fifth in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Preseason Coaches Poll, announced on Wednesday.
Three-time champion Saint Francis (Pa.) picked up five of the seven first-place votes to be tabbed as the preseason favorite. Bryant and Wagner each received a first-place nod to be picked second while Central Connecticut State, the Mount, St. Francis (N.Y.) and Sacred Heart rounded out the seven-team poll.
The Mount continues to make strides each season at the NEC Swimming & Diving Championships. Last year, Erin Regan (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) became the first Mount swimmer to win an event at the championships with her victory in the 200 fly and also place second in the 100 fly to earn the squad's first major award with NEC Rookie of the Meet honors.
Senior Courtney Griffith (Westminster, Md./Westminster) finished third in both the 50 free and the 100 fly to earn a pair of All-NEC third-team honors and now has three all-conference honors for her career while junior Patricia Yam (Placenta, Calif./Rosary) placed in the 200 fly for the second-straight season.
Mount St. Mary's finished fifth at the 2011 NEC Swimming & Diving Championships with a program-record 348 points.
The Mount opened its seventh season in program history at the Potomac Relays on Friday. Mount St. Mary's returns to action at Saint Francis (Pa.) on Oct. 13.
