O'Connell Dubois Named NEC Women's Scholar-Athlete Of The Year
EMMITSBURG, Md. - Maggie O'Connell Dubois (Hagerstown, Md.), a member of the Mount St. Mary's women's swimming team, has been named the 2009-10 Northeast Conference (NEC) Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced on Tuesday.
O'Connell Dubois, who graduated with a 3.9923 grade-point average from the Mount in May with a degree in elementary education, earned this academic award sponsored by league's NEC's Faculty Athletic Representatives. For each of the past four years, the NEC has bestowed the honor upon the male and female student-athletes who have exhausted their athletic eligibility, graduated, and posted the highest GPA in the conference at the conclusion of the academic calendar. She becomes the Mountaineer's first recipient of the honor in the four-year history of the award.
O'Connell Dubois, a member of inaugural women's swimming recruiting class at Mount St. Mary's, left her mark on the women's swimming team in her four years in Emmitsburg. She recorded five top-9 finishes at the NEC Championships in her career and holds the highest finish in program history with a fifth-place standing in the 100 fly at the 2008 league invitational. O'Connell Dubois posted the program's first-ever individual victory with a first-place finish in the 1000 free against Manhattan on Oct. 28, 2006 and leaves the Mount with program-record times in the 50 free, 100 fly and 200 fly.
