March 10, 2018—The Mount St. Mary's softball team lost a pair of games at the Towson Tiger Clash on Saturday afternoon. The Mount lost to Fairfield, 4-0, before falling to host Towson, 4-0. The Mount falls to 6-11 on the season.
Fairfield 4, Mount St. Mary's 0
Fairfield scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a scoreless tie en route to a 4-0 win over the Mount in the first game today. Jordan Weaver tossed a complete-game for the Mount in the loss.
The Mountaineers managed just one hit against Fairfield's Destinee Pallotto, a Morgan Alisaauckas single to lead off the top of the fourth.
The Mount's best scoring threat came in the top of the second with runners on second and third with one out, but Pallotti struck out the next two batters to end the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, Rachel Sieber's single drove home the first run of the game. Mikayla Rubin gave the Stags (5-6) breathing room with a bases-clearing double to make it 4-0.
Towson 4, Mount St. Mary's 0
Towson defeated the Mount, 4-0, in the second game of the day for the Mountaineers. Marian Ruf and Shea McFarland each had hits for the Mount in the game. Freshman Amanda Berkley started in the circle, allowing four runs and seven hits in the complete game.
The Tigers (14-3) had a two-out rally in the bottom of the first. After getting the first two outs, Towson had a single and a walk to put two runners on. Daria Edwards followed with an RBI double, and Nicole Stockinger added a two-run double to make it 3-0. Cassidy Meyer's solo home run in the sixth completed the scoring.
Ruf broke up Julia Smith-Harrington's no-hit bid with a single with one out in the top of the seventh inning. McFarland added a two-out single to put runners on first and second, but Smith-Harrington got a strikeout to end the game.
UP NEXT: The Mount plays Fairfield at 10 a.m. and Towson at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow to close out the Towson Tiger Clash.
