MOUNT UPDATE: The Mountaineers enter this weekend's tournament with a 6-9 record on the season. The Mount lost a pair of games at Furman (12-1, 2-0) on March 3rd to end an 11-game spring break road trip. The Mountaineers won six of their first eight games during the trip. Lindsay Heinze lads the Mount with a .349 average, five doubles, four home runs and 13 RBI. Katie Olson (2-2, 3.68 ERA) and Jordan Weaver (3-3, 4.09 ERA) have paced the Mount's pitching staff.
ABOUT FAIRFIELD: Fairfield enters the weekend with a 4-5 overall record. The Stags went 3-1 at the Campbell Stampede last weekend, including a win over Georgia Tech. Makenna DiGuilio leads the team with a .421 average while Courtney Hankins has two home runs and a team-high seven RBI. Destinee Pallotto has been the top pitcher, going 3-2 with a 3.76 ERA in five appearances (four starts).
ABOUT TOWSON: Towson enters this weekend with a 12-3 record. The Tigers defeated Bucknell, 3-0, in their last game on March 3. Madison Wilson leads the team with a .491 average while brook Miko is hitting .438 while leading the team with four home runs, 20 RBI and 19 runs scored. Megan Dejter is 6-0 with a 2.62 ERA to pace the pitching staff.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES vs. FAIRFIELD: This will be the first meeting for the Mount and Fairfield.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES vs. TOWSON: Towson holds a 38-7-1 lead in the all-time series with the Mountaineers. The Tigers have won the past four matchups, and 12 of the past 13 meetings in the series. Last year, Towson posted a 10-4 win over the Mount on March 18. The Mount's last win over Towson was a 10-0 victory on April 4, 2013.
HEINZE NAMED NORTHEAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Junior third baseman Lindsay Heinze was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week on Monday. Heinze hit .381 and slugged .905 with three home runs and eight RBI in seven games for the Mount last week. Heinze, a First Team All-NEC selection last season, went 8-for-21 with two doubles, three home runs and five runs scored in leading the Mount to a 3-4 record during their spring trip. She went 2-for-3 with a home, three RBI and two runs scored in the Mount's 12-3 win over Savannah State. Two days later, Henize homered in the Mount's 8-4 win over Delaware State, and then added a solo shot in the Mount's loss to USC Upstate later in the day. Heinze leads the Mount with a .349 average, four home runs, 13 RBI and a .744 slugging percentage this year.
OLSON HAS STRONG TRIP: Junior pitcher Katie Olson had a strong spring trip for the Mountaineers, going 2-1 with a 2.66 ERA in in 23.2 innings of work. Olson appeared in eight games and tossed a complete game in each of her two starts. She held opponents to a .247 average while striking out 13 batters with just six walks.
UP NEXT: The Mount heads to Morgan State for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 14, with game one starting at 2:00 p.m.
