Baltimore, Md. (March 13, 2013) -- The Mount St. Mary's softball team exploded for 19 runs, while Nicole Pagano tossed a two-hit shutout in a 19-0 five-inning victory over UMBC on Wednesday.
The Mountaineers got off to a fast start with two runs in the first inning off an RBI single up the middle by Leddy to plate two. The Mount had two eight-run innings on the day, with the first occurring in the top of the third. Five singles, one UMBC fielding error and a double by Cat Clifford contributed to the eight-run third inning. The Mount sent 13 batters to the plate in the frame.
Following Leddy's leadoff double down the left-field line in the fourth, Rachel Teti hit a single to make it 11-0 in favor of the Mount.
The Mount sent 11 more players to bat in the top of the fifth, scoring eight more runs on two hits and eight walks. With runners on second and third and five runs already on the board in the inning, Lohman homered to centerfield to put the finishing touches on a 19-0 victory. It was Lohman's first home run of the season and second for her career.
The 19 runs are the most since the Mount put up 30 in a win over Coppin State on March 27, 2008.
Pagano struck out four UMBC players on the day for her second victory of the season.
