Mount St. Mary's Softball Downed by Seton Hall, 5-3

February 23, 2013--Mount St. Mary's lost to Seton Hall, 5-3, at the Jacksonville University Invitational on Saturday. Cat Clifford homered for the Mount in the loss.

The Mount's second game against Jacksonville was suspended with the Dolphins leading 3-2 in the bottom of the second due to rain.

Mount St. Mary's (0-3) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on Holly Buckel's RBI single with the bases loaded.  Alexa Tuck singled home pinch-runner Lindsey Ruhle in the top of the third for a two-run Mountaineer lead.

Seton Hall answered with three runs in the bottom of the third and one in the fourth to take a 4-2 advantage.  Clifford cut the deficit to one with a solo home run in the fifth, but the Pirates (3-5) countered with an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

Buckel finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate for the Mountaineers.  Nicole Pagano struck out five while allowing three earned runs in the complete-game loss.

The tournament concludes tomorrow.
