Mount Softball Edged by Delaware; Falls to South Alabama, at Jacksonville Invitational

Jacksonville, Fla. (February 22, 2013)--The Mount St. Mary's softball team opened the 2013 season at the Jacksonville Invitational on Friday, falling to Delaware, 5-4, in eight innings, and to South Alabama, 12-0.

Trailing 4-0 heading into the top of the seventh against Delaware, the Mount rallied by scoring four runs with two outs to extend the game to extra innings.  Alexa Tuck singled, Megan Baker walked, and Erin Leddy singled to load the bases with two outs.  Holly Buckel then singled to left to plate Tuck and Baker to cut the deficit to 4-2.  Liz Christiansen followed with a two-run single of her own to even the score.

The Mount (0-2) loaded the bases in the top of the eighth, but was unable to score.  Delaware loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning, and scored the game-winning run on a Mount error.

Mount St. Mary's fell to South Alabama, 12-2, later in the day.  Rachel Gavigan had an RBI double and Cat Clifford an RBI single in the loss.

The Mount returns to action tomorrow with a 2:00 p.m. game against Seton Hall and a 6:30 p.m. game against host Jacksonville.
