Spring Trip To Florida Highlights Softball Schedule

EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Mount St. Mary's softball team's schedule is highlights by 13 games in the Sunshine State and seven home dates.

The Mountaineers will open up their season in Deland, Fla., at the Hatter Classic hosted by Stetson. The Mount will open the Hatter Classic against head coach Anna Nagro's alma mater St. Bonaventure on Friday. The Bonnies lead the series 4-3 with all seven previous matchups coming on a neutral site. The Mount will also battle host Stetson on Feb. 24. The Hatters won the lone meetings between the two teams, 1-0 in 2007. The Mount faces Bethune-Cookman on Feb. 25 along with a second meeting against Stetson. It will be the second meeting against the Eagles after Bethune-Cookman downed the Mount in 2007.

As the next week approaches, Mount St. Mary's will play St. Bonaventure and Stetson in a pair of doubleheaders on Feb. 29 and Mar. 1

This is the second year in a row that the Mount will be attending the North Florida Tournament, located in Jacksonville, Fla, on Mar. 2-4. The Mountaineers will play three teams they are familiar with in Delaware State, St. Bonaventure, and North Florida and while they have never faced McNeese State. The Mount is going into this tournament 0-3 against the Osprey and 11-8 against the Hornets.

After the tournament, Mount St. Mary's will return home to Maryland and make a short trip to UMBC where they will play Siena, UMBC, Niagara, and Coppin State in the UMBC Tournament on Mar. 10-11. This will be the first time in Mount St. Mary's history that they play Siena. On the other hand, Mount has matched up with UMBC 38 times winning only six, including three wins against the Retrievers in 2011. Mount St. Mary's has a 23-3 advantage against the Eagles, but Coppin State took two out of three games last season. The Purple Eagles hold a 3-1 advantage in the series.

The Mount will play a twinbill on Mar. 13 against George Washington then head back to UMBC on three days later for four more games. This time around the team will play Brown, Sacred Heart, Rhode Island, and Georgetown. It will be the first-ever meeting against Brown while the Mount holds a 1-0 record against Rhode Island and a 6-2 record over Georgetown. On the other hand, Sacred Heart leads the series 18-8 and will be a rare non-conference meeting against a Northeast Conference (NEC) foe.

The Mount will kick off NEC play with a pair of doubleheaders, hosting Quinnipiac on Mar. 24 and Sacred Heart on Mar. 25. The Bobcats lead the series 17-9.

The Mount will then hit the road with a four-game swing up north against Bryant (Mar.31) and Central Connecticut State (Apr.1). Mount St. Mary's leads the series with the Bulldogs 3-1 while the Blue Devils have won the last two matchups to even out the series at 13.

The Mount will then travel to Canisius (Apr. 5) and Niagara (Apr. 6). The Golden Griffs lead the series 3-1.

The Mountaineers return back to the state to face UMBC in Baltimore for second time this season.

The Mount will conclude an 11-game road trip with a twinbill at Saint Francis (Pa.) on Apr. 14. The Red Flash leads the series 42-21, but Mount St. Mary's has won four of the last five meetings.

Mount St. Mary's returns home to host Robert Morris on Apr. 15 with the Colonials holding a 33-6 edge in the series. The Mount remains at Our Lady of the Meadows for a doubleheader against Coppin State on Apr. 18.

The squad will then split next weekend, traveling to Fairleigh Dickinson (Apr. 21) before hosting LIU Brooklyn (Apr. 22). The Mount holds a 13-7 advantage against the Knights while the Blackbirds are 38-7 against the Mountaineers.

Mount St. Mary's will face Coppin State for the fifth time on the year on Apr. 24 in Baltimore. The Mount will then return home to welcome another in-state rival Towson the next day for a double dip. The Tigers lead the series 32-6-1.

The squad concludes conference play with another split weekend, traveling to Monmouth (Apr. 28) before hosting Wagner (Apr. 29). The Hawks are 36-3 against the Mount and the Seahawks hold a 30-7 margin in the series.

Mount St. Mary's will then end its season with a doubleheader against Howard on May 3. The Mount will be facing the Bison for the first time since 2009, leading the series 2-1.

The NEC Tournament will be held at the regular season champion's field on May 12 and 13 with the top four teams advancing to the tournament.
