Annapolis, Md. (November 10, 2018) - The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team finished up the second day of the Navy Gold Invite on Saturday night. Day two of the tournament was comprised of all singles round robin matches in order to set up the playoff rounds tomorrow. Gabriel Santos and Alonso Garcia each placed third in their group and will battle for fifth place in each of their Flights.
In group one of Flight C, Alonso Garcia was downed 6-2, 6-3 by Tate Steinour from James Madison in round two and in round three, Garcia was topped 6-1, 6-1 by Columbia University's Jason Lui. The Mount freshman will battle JanOskar Kjellberg from Navy for fifth place tomorrow.
Jean Armstrong dropped matches to Morgan State's Sebastian Lopez 6-3, 6-1 in round two and George Washington's Lawrence Sciglitano 7-6, 6-1 in round three in group 1 of Flight D. Armstrong will face off against Dan Tan from St. Joe's for seventh place.
In group one of Flight E, Mount junior Gabriel Santos edged George Washington's William Peden 6-2, 6-7, 1-0 in round two. In round three, Santos was downed 6-3, 6-3 by Giacomo Pezzoli from Hofstra. In the group one third place vs group two third place match, Santos will play George Washington's Mason Liu for fifth place.
Evan Hine was topped by Navy's Cameron Kirkpatrick 6-3, 6-2 in round two and was edged by La Salle's Conner Merrill 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 in round three of Flight F. Hine will meet St. Joe's Sam Sauter in the seventh place match tomorrow.
In group two of Flight G, Chris Lindsey dropped a round two match 6-1, 6-2 to George Washington's Michael Barsky but Lindsey topped Scott Battaglia from St. Joe's 6-3, 6-3 in round three. The Mount senior will take on St. Joe's Alex Macneil for seventh place.
The final day of the tournament will see the Semifinals and Finals of doubles action and the Playoff rounds in singles competition.
