Opening Serve: The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team is coming off a weekend sweep this past weekend over St. Francis U, Morgan State, and Robert Morris. The men defeated the Red Flash, 5-2 on Friday, then followed up with a 6-1 win over the Bears on Saturday. The team completed the sweep with a 4-3 win over the Colonials on Sunday. With the wins, the men move to 12-6 overall and 3-1 in the NEC, to sit at 2nd place in the conference.

About the Greyhounds: Loyola comes into the contest with a 9-4 record on the season, after falling to Fairfield on Sunday. The Greyhounds dropped two doubles matches and all six singles matches. Bobby Gorczakowski and Connor Pietrak won their doubles match in a thrilling 9-8 match.

About Last Year: The match with Loyola was postponed and never made up due to rain.

Senior Leadership: The team returns all six starters from a year ago, which includes three seniors. Matthew Blake (Garnet Valley, Pa./Salesianum (Del.), Taylor Place(Snellville, Ga./St. Pius X), and Mike Salomon (Haymarket, Va./Seton) lead the charge into 2012-13. Blake finished last year with a 13-13 record in singles, and teamed with Place to finish 13-11 in doubles. Place had a 10-15 singles record, while Salomon had a stellar 24-5 singles record. Paul Chae (Hagerstown, Md./St. Maria Goretti) is the other senior, who had a 1-4 singles record last season.

Strength Up The Middle: The team boasts a pair of juniors and sophomores. Mike Zabetakis (Finksburg, Md./Calvert Hall), and Justin Olexa (Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) make up the junior duo who saw positive playing time last season. Zabetakis played mainly at the No. 3 spot, and accumulated an overall singles record of 8-17. Olexa had a 3-3 singles record. Sophomore Adam Salam (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) had a solid rookie campaign. Salam played No. 2 and had a 12-12 record.

Brotherly Love: Freshman Austin Blake (Garnet Valley, Pa./Salesianum (Del.) joins his older brother Matthew for the season. They are the first brothers to play together since Thad and Jastin Mostowtt played together in the 2009-10 season.

Matthew Blake Honored: Senior Co-captain Matthew Blake was named NEC Player of the Week on April 9. It was the first time this year a Mount player was honored. Blake went 4-0 in singles and 3-1 with partner Taylor Place in doubles action on the week.

Up Next: The men's tennis team will host NEC foe Monmouth to round out the regular season. The match with the Hawks begins at 1:00 PM on Sunday, April 14 in Emmitsburg.
