Men's Tennis Blanks Rider on Sunday Afternoon
Emmitsburg, Md. (October 21, 2012)-- The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team finished the fall slate with a strong 7-0 win over Rider on Sunday. The Mount won all three doubles matches and all six singles matches in straight sets to earn the victory.
The Senior tandem of Matthew Blake and Taylor Place started the winning with an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles over Rollie Malfitano and Nick Lubold. Mike Salomon and Adam Salam were next up with a 8-2 win at the No. 2 spot over Drew Laverty and Matt Di Martino. Finally, Mike Zabetakis and Austin Blake downed Ryan Carpenter and John Spellman 8-1 at the No. 3 spot to earn the doubles point.
In singles, Matt Blake rolled to a 6-3; 6-2 victory over Malfitano at the No. 1 spot. Salam followed up with a 6-2; 6-3 win over Laverty at No. 2. His doubles partner Mike Salomon downed Spellman at No. 3 6-2; 6-0. Matt's brother Austin won 6-2; 6-1 over Carpenter at No. 4. Mike Zabetakis and Taylor Place rounded out the victories at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively. Zabetakis beat Lubold 6-0; 6-0 while Place beat Mike Gershon 6-0; 6-3.
This concludes the fall portion of the season. The men return to action February 16 when they travel to Howard.
